A slew of fire station projects for Central Kitsap

Construction will start next month on Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue’s Fire Station 57 at 14500 N.W. Coho Run, near Lake William Symington and Camp Union.

When it opens in a year, the nearly 11,000-square-foot fire station will have four apparatus bays, living and sleeping quarters for five personnel, work areas and a small public lobby. It will be staffed around the clock, serving the Lake Symington, Lake Tahuya, Crosby, Holly and surrounding Seabeck communities.

Bremerton-based Rice Fergus Miller is the project architect. Other members of the design team are Reid Middleton, structural engineer; N.L. Olson & Associates, civil engineer; Sider + Byers, MEP engineer; and Lyon Landscape Architects. Rice Fergus Miller’s team is led by project manager Lorie Limson Cook and project architect Jason Ritter-Lopatowski.

Berschauer Group of Olympia, with a base bid of $7.08 million, was the lowest of seven firms seeking to build the station and was awarded the construction contract. The next lowest bidders were Pease Construction, at $7.24 million, and Neeley Construction, at $7.27 million. All but one of the base bids were within 7% of each other. The engineer’s estimate was $7 million-$7.3 million.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue is in the first of two phases of district-wide capital projects that will combine and replace fire stations, remodel stations, and perform related improvements including seismic upgrades. In November 2020, voters approved a bond to fund these improvements.

Station 57 is part of the first phase, as are the under-construction Station 45 in the North Perry area and Station 52 in the Olympic View area. Rice Fergus Miller also designed those stations. Station 45 is being built by Christensen Inc. and Station 52 by Berschauer Group, according to DJC records.

Phase one rounds out with the Station 53 project in Seabeck, expected to start over the winter.

The second phase has the Station 51 project in Silverdale starting next spring. The rest of this phase involves remodels to Station 64 in Chico, Station 41 in Meadowdale, Station 56 on the Seabeck Highway and Station 42 in the Island Lake area.
