Emerald Communities has opened the $145 million Heron’s Key life plan community at 4340 Borgen Blvd. in Gig Harbor. The development sits on 18 acres of woodlands in the Harbor Hill neighborhood.
The project has simple roof forms and vibrant shoreside colors that reflect a historic Scandinavian fishing village.
There are 184 apartments and 10 cottage homes for independent living. Floor plans range from 729 to 1,800 square feet. An on-site health center called Penrose Harbor has 36 one-bedroom assisted-living apartments and 45 private skilled-nursing beds.
Amenities include several restaurant-style dining venues, a day spa, fitness center, woodshop and walking trails.
Residents pay a one-time, 75 percent refundable, entrance fee and a monthly fee that covers housing, services and programming. They have unlimited use of the community’s health care, including assisted-living, skilled nursing and rehabilitative services.
Here is the project team: Rice Fergus Miller, architect; LCS Development, for-fee developer; The Weitz Co., contractor; Coughlin Porter Lundeen, structural engineer; David Evans and Associates, civil engineer; Berger Partnership, landscape architect; studiosix5, interior design; and Stirrett Johnsen, plumbing.
