North Kitsap Residence
This North Kitsap home is a story of quality over quantity, restoration, and elements of surprise. The existing home on the property was preserved and barged to a non-profit in the San Juan Islands. Connection to the water was important to the homeowners, and with the help of a landscape architect and habitat biologist, they restored the waterfront. Their design mitigated erosion, provided access by way of a gentle path to the water, and restored the vegetation to native species.
The home-owners loved how light played off the water. A simple grey building mass provided a canvas for deliberately located windows to capture light and redirect in intentional ways while also providing privacy. On the water side, the dining room has a large 2-story expanse of glass to light the interior space and create an expansive view of the water. The home is accessible and includes preparation for a residential elevator.
