East Pierce Fire & Rescue Headquarters Station 111
East Pierce Fire & Rescue (EPFR) Station 111 serves as the new headquarters for EPFR, uniting multiple divisions under one roof while providing modern, future-ready facilities for emergency response and administration. At 32,000 square feet, it is the largest station Rice Fergus Miller has designed to date.
The station features a clear separation between administrative functions and active fire service areas, with careful zoning of “clean” and “dirty” spaces to support firefighter health and safety. Flexible, gender-neutral facilities—including individual sleeping rooms, all-gender restrooms, and wellness accommodations, promote inclusivity and adaptability for a growing department.
Daylighting, acoustic performance, and durability drove the interior design, with skylit offices, private workspaces, and communal areas that foster connection and rest. In the firefighters’ kitchen, large windows frame views of Mount Rainier, bringing in natural light and enhance a sense of connection to the community.
