Boise Fire Station 13
Boise Fire Station 13 is Idaho’s first fire station built with cross-laminated timber (CLT), setting a new precedent for public safety facilities in the state. Located in the Harris Ranch neighborhood, the station was designed with a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes firefighter wellness through calming natural finishes, biophilic design, and thoughtful acoustics. The use of CLT as both structure and finish creates a warm, home-like environment while reducing embodied carbon, shortening construction timelines, and lowering costs by eliminating secondary finishes. With an exceptionally low Energy Use Index (EUI) of 35, the station is net-zero-ready and designed to operate efficiently well into the future. Beyond its technical innovations, Station 13 serves as a resilient, community-focused facility that reflects Boise’s investment in sustainability, wellness, and long-term service to its growing population.
