Kitsap Community Resources now LEED® certified

New KCR building earns LEED Silver certification

Kitsap Community Resources (KCR) has received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification plaque, which signifies its new facility at 845 8th St. meets the nationally accepted standards of design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

Completed in Oct. 2007, the first green building in Bremerton serves as a single location for several of KCR’s services including the Bremerton WIC Nutrition Clinic, Employment and Training Services, AmeriCorps, Food Services, and agency administration.

“We are proud to have achieved this recognition from LEED,” said Larry Eyer, executive director of KCR. “It shows our commitment to the environment that our community, clients and employees live in. We hope it will serve as a model to others interested in developing a green building.”

“The benefits of the new building go beyond the cost savings involved in housing these services in one spot,” said Mike Botkin, project director of the new building construction. “This facility demonstrates an investment in our future and our community by improving the work environment for our employees and by providing an easily accessible location for our clients. Already we have seen a significant increase in the number of families taking advantage of our WIC services.”
